Color Guides

Pick the guide that matches your next color decision

Start with the real job in front of you: identify a color from a photo, pull exact codes, or match an existing wall paint before you buy.

01

Why matching existing wall color is hard without the app

Paint colors shift over time as they age, fade, or react to cleaning. A chip from the current wall is never exactly the original color. Even if you have the original paint can, the batch mixed today may not exactly match the batch mixed years ago.

The app samples the actual color currently on your wall and finds the nearest match in today’s available paint products — accounting for the fact that you are matching the aged color, not the original formula.

02

Getting the best scan for color matching

Scan in the best-lit area of the wall — ideally near a window in daytime, away from shadows or direct sunlight. The app samples a cluster of pixels to average out any texture or minor variation in the paint surface.

If the room has multiple walls with slightly different colors, scan each wall separately and compare the results before deciding which match to order.

03

Touch-up painting vs full room repaint

For small touch-ups, the closest match from the app will usually be close enough once dry. For a full wall or room repaint where the old and new paint will be seen side by side, ordering a small sample can and testing a patch is still good practice.

The app marks how close the match is numerically so you can judge when a result is imperceptible and when it might still be visible under direct comparison.

04

Finding a match at a different store than the original

If the original paint was from a brand not available in your current location, the app finds the nearest equivalent from other brands you can actually access. A Farrow & Ball color matched to a Benjamin Moore equivalent can still be mixed at a Benjamin Moore dealer.

That flexibility is what makes the tool useful beyond one brand ecosystem.

Quick answers

Can I use Match Wall Color on iPhone?

Yes. Color Identifier & Paint Match is built for iPhone and lets you scan live colors, import photos, save results, and compare practical color details in one workflow.

How accurate is this result?

Camera-based color results are strongest when the source is evenly lit, in focus, and free from glare or deep shadow. Treat the output as a strong shortlist, then test physical paint samples when an exact wall match matters.

What should I do after I identify the color?

Save the color, compare nearby matches, and share the result before buying paint, building a palette, documenting a spec, or handing the shade to another person.
